Vice Postulator, Cause of Bl.AlphonsaHis Excellency Mar. Joseph Pallickapara-mpil, Bishop of Palai, was officially entrusted from Rome to collect evidences, supportive to the Canonization process. His Excellency, hence entrusted to Rev.Fr.Francis Vadakkel, the Vice Postulator of the Cause of BL. Alphonsa, the task of finding the witnesses and investigating the matters related to the miracle which happened through the intercession of BL.Alphonsa. Rev.Fr.Francis Vadakkel interviewed the couple Shaji and Lissy Ozhuthotty of Mannarppara parish, whose second son Jinil was miraculously cured of club foot. He then prepared the list of witnesses related to the miraculous cure.
The second son, Jinil, of the aforesaid couple, had both his legs twisted from the knee downwards including the foot. But the elder son had no defect at all. Lissy gave birth to Jinil at the Vimala hospital Ettumanoor. The parents and relatives were in great sorrow at this severe handicap of their lovely child. Dr. Aleyamma Korah MBBS DGO clearly identified and recorded the defect as "Club feet of both sides Talipes Equinio Varus". On her instruction both the legs of the baby from above the knee were plastered. The child became highly restless after a few days and was crying continuously. The parents consulted the doctor and the doctor said that there was nothing more to be done medically. Later the parents went to their parish priest Rev.Fr. Jose Vallompura-yidom and shared their sorrow. The parish priest met the child at their house and told them about BL.Alphonsa and advised them to say the Novena intercessory prayer to BL. Alphonsa. They fasted and prayed intensely. They took the child to the tomb of BL. Alphonsa, laid him on the tomb and prayed in tears " Amma consider the case of our child ".
After prayer at the tomb, they went to the maternal home of the child at Kappumthala. While they were saying the evening prayer with the child beside them on the floor, suddenly the child Jinil stood up and walked effortlessly to and fro inside the room. Their joy knew no bounds. All cried excitedly out of their great joy. Pointing at the picture of BL. Alphonsa in the prayer room, the child said "It is this Annannamma (Alphonsamma) who makes me walk." Miraculously both his legs were straightened and healed completely.
On the 13th November 1999 they went to Bharananganam with the child and gave the details of the miracle to the Vice-Postulator Rev.Fr.Francis Vadakkel. The Vice-Postulator conveyed in writing, the details of the miracle to Rev.Fr.Luke D.Rose, the Postulator in Rome. His Excellency Mar Joseph Pallika-parampil, delegated the Vice-Postulator Rev.Fr. Francis Vadakkel to complete the process regarding the Canonization.
On 27th January 2002, His Excellency Mar Joseph Pallickaparampil was informed officially through Rev.Msgr Paul Pallathu, to start the canonization process in the diocese and His Excellency delegated the same to the Vice-Postulator Rev.Fr.Francis Vadakkel. On 2nd February 2002, in a meeting officiated by His Excellency Mar Joseph Pallickaparampil at the Bishop’s House Palai, the miracle through the intercession of BL. Alphonsa was taken in to consideration. The Bishop asked Rev.Fr. Francis Vadakkel to talk personally to the doctor and witnesses related to the miracle. Accordingly, Rev. Fr. Francis Vadakkel, before the starting of the tribunal, collected the names of all the persons related to the miracle and talked to them in person.
